| Sunlight Offers Complete Solution to Fracture Risk |
|
(Tel Aviv, Israel, October 19, 2004) - Sunlight is today offering a
comprehensive solution for managing the dual dangers that can lead to fractures - weak bones
and poor balance. With the first-ever report on bone health of Americans just released by the
US Surgeon General, Sunlight's combined device provides a timely answer to the issues raised
in the report.
The Surgeon General states that in 2004 an estimated 10 million Americans suffer from osteoporosis and 34 million more are at risk.
With the current aging of the population, the number of hip fractures - a direct consequence of osteoporosis - could double or even
triple by 2020. Still, stresses the Surgeon General, the tools available today for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of bone
disease can make a dent in these numbers - if patients and physicians take the initiative to manage osteoporosis now.
Sunlight's Omnisense series, sold worldwide since 1998, is already extensively used to detect and manage osteoporosis. Omnisense,
the only ultrasound bone assessment device that measures at multiple skeletal sites, enjoys one of the highest precision ratings
in the industry (0.4% CV at the radius).
Sunlight has now added the Tetrax device, a balance assessment tool that has been in clinical and research use around the world for
over 30 years, to the Omnisense package. With its unique balance parameters, its advantage over other balance devices is in the
insight Tetrax results give the physician into the underlying problems that cause instability.
"Regular assessment of both fall risk and bone strength is the best way to prevent fractures for older patients," explains Dr.
Liat Tsoref, Sunlight's VP for Research and Development. "We are presenting a clinical abstract that demonstrates the connection
between bone strength and balance at the International Osteoporosis Conference in Beijing this month. In essence," she clarifies,
"both risk of falling, measured by Tetrax balance results, and bone strength, measured by Omnisense, affect the likelihood that
a patient will sustain a fracture."
With 1.5 million osteoporotic fractures taking place annually in the United States alone, risk of fracture is a major concern
for physicians and patients alike. Up-to-date testing of two factors that lead to fractures with Omnisense can help many allay
these concerns.
